A few days ago I decided to change a few things on this here blog. Nothing too major. Just updated the look, rewrote the about me page and finally switched the domain over to shesingswedance.com. All the old links should still work and redirect [jackiemrussell.com], you don’t even have to update your bookmarks unless you want to. If you do find a dead link, please let me know and I’ll fix it right away.
I don’t know why I hadn’t updated the domain name sooner. While I’ve had jackiemrussell.com now for almost 10 years now, I have written under the name shesingswedance.com for awhile. I guess technically this is a rebranding but for such a small blog with a limited audience it hasn’t felt much like one. A couple of blogs that I follow have recently rebranded as well, like Kaelah and Natalie.
It’s interesting to read about their transitions from one name and look to a new one. For me I look at a rebranding and just shrug my shoulders. It doesn’t seem like that big of a deal to me. Like getting a new haircut. The blogger is still the same person, just with a new identity and look. Apparently though a rebranding can really upset some people. I guess not everyone likes changes. I think, for the most part, changes can be really beneficial. Especially if the new identity more closely resembles who a person is.
For me, jackiemrussell.com was the address I choose when I thought I was going to take an extremely professional path. It was a place that was going to be for my résumé and such. That didn’t last long though. It soon became a place where I practiced building websites or where some of my graphic design images and weird poems lived. At one point it also had my photography portfolio. Eventually I got into blogging in a more public way as opposed to blogging on livejournal. That’s around the time that I started to out grow the professional name business. Not to mention that I got married and started using ‘Russell’ less and less.
After brainstorming for what felt like forever, I finally came up with she sings we dance. The main idea behind it is that Sophie sings and Steve and I dance along to her singing. Of course this name has worked well with the addition of Joel since ‘we’ can include him too. We’re a very musical family so it just made sense. Do I only blog about my family? No. In fact I think I blog more about other things but I still like the name. To me it speaks to the happy, go lucky spirit of our family and how that feeling inspires me to be the best person I can be. We’re always singing, dancing, playing instruments and just having a fun time together.
This year I hope to make a real push forward here on the blog. I’ve been at this for a bit but I haven’t really moved forward and taken the next steps. I’m not quite sure what the next steps are quite yet but at the very least I would like to get better about updating. I want to add more content that is all me. And lastly I don’t want to have any more post about how I’ve slacked. I want 2014 to be the year that I grow a lot, not just as a blogger but also as a person. We’ll see how it goes. And I hope you stick around and join in on this adventure in living.
